It seems that the Hampshire Gazette is trying to find someone permanent to take Ken's old writing position. He wrote a column called Clubland and each week he reviewed a different concert - or sometimes album.

In the last two days, five or six people have asked me if I was going to apply. One of them even assumed that I already had the job. While it would be nice to make some dough seeing shows and then writing about them, I can't see myself pursuing it for a few reasons.

1.) I'm not really a writer. Ken's column was great. It was always clear and concise and well-written. Sometimes, I can fake it, but really, I'm not a writer in that league.

2.) Going to a show per week and being impressed enough by it to want to write a column is harder than it sounds and my nights are already pretty full.

3.) I have too many friends in bands. People would start to resent me for not reviewing their show or for not reviewing it well enough or for some tiny little phrase that they didn't like. I don't need that aggravation. Ingrates! Stop harrassing me!

4.) Selfishly, if I took that position, I would never be able to get any of my own musical pursuits written about in that column.

So, yeah, there you go. Hopefully, someone really good will take the position - I think it's valuable column to have around.
