I know I keep mentioning Pitchfork
http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/
but they've compiled their favorite albums of the 70's, 80's and 90's. The 70's one is only half done, but it goes to show how that was a decade that, at its start, could not have predicted its finish. I mean "After the Gold Rush" and "Drums and Wires" in the same decade?
The 80's one is the one that made me the most excited. The 80's music I think has aged better and influenced more than anyone probably could have predicted.
The 90's one--well, oddly enough consists of the most that I haven't heard. But the majority I have, and for the most part agree.
EXCEPT both OK Computer and The Soft Bulletin were in the top 5, and guess what? When I just brought 12 CDs to Turn it Up to sell back, both of them went. Why? They seem just of-the-moment albums. I haven't put either of them on in the last 2 years. I bought them both after just reading glowing review after glowing review. I'd lump Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in there too.
But, one that I LOVE after just reading reviews (and which is on the list) is Spirtualized "Ladies and Gentlement We're Floating in Space". Though I don't listen to it often, I owe it big time for the places it has taken me when I have.
