Ikulele, Ukulele, We All Kulele

I'm not claiming I'm the next Doris Day (or the next Zeke Fiddler or Jason Bourgeois for that matter). I might not be Tiny Tim Jr. But look out world, papa's got a brand new ukulele.

As I unwrapped the gift from Miss Bezo, we both marveled at the fact that I had never had a ukulele before. It just doesn't seem possible.

But it's true.

I now have my first ukulele. Listen for it on the next School for the Dead album. It's inevitable, when I get a new instrument, it makes an appearance very quickly.

It's beautiful and tiny and sounds like a charm. It's even got a plush little case that I can wear on my back.

If nature could smile, it'd look like a ukulele, don't you think?

I borrowed a uke last year to play in one of the productions at my school. The school chorale sang a medley of Over The Rainbow and What A Wonderful World with just my ukulele accompaniment. There are about 20 different chords to learn to master those two songs and the fingerings are comletely different than for guitar so I had to practice a lot. However, it was the most fun kind of practice in the world. Everything I plunked out on that tiny chunk of wooden heaven with strings sounded so happy and fun. Even "Free Bird" (a request, natch) exuded a relaxed, sunshiny vibe. Henning, try "Screen Door" on it. Good stuff.

Well, you're doomed now Henning. Ukuleles are addictive little critters. I play a bunch of different instruments but the ukes get the most love.

Ooops!

PS. Love seeing Doris kicking up her heels with the baritone uke. That's from "Please Don't Eat The Daisies" isn't it?

I know I emailed you this before, but now it's YouTubed! I look forward to hearing what you can do with a uke, afterall, this is what my 7yo did with hers!

Antwes, I'll try "Screen Door". First thing I did was learn "Campground Daughter". Uke fits that perfectly, it's even in the right key. The uke is like having a capo on the fifth fret of a guitar, which I do for that song anyway.

Howlin' Hobbit, thanks for stopping by. I'm finding the ukulele addictive like you warned. It's so easy to pick up and so hard to put down.

Ina, thanks again for the video. It's terribly adorable. Maybe I'll cover THAT song.
