Rub Wrongways Records Studio was back in business last night. For the first time since the move, microphones were plugged in, noises were made, cds were burned.
So far, it seems like a pretty good set-up. I have some little sticking points that need to be ironed out and I certainly need to find my headphone amp. It's in a box somewhere.
I'm curious to see what I can figure out about trying to keep the sounds in the basement rather then having them bounce all around the whole house. I'm not sure if it's possible, but I think I should be able to at least make things a bit better.
I have the feeling that the hollow space beneath the stairs and right next to the drums might act as a kind of resonator. I don't think the walls seperating those two areas are insulated in any way so it's just drywall between us and the below-the-stairs-goblins.
Also, having a forced air heating system means that the house's guts are lined with hollow metal duct work - it's kind of like the whole building is one big ear.
That's kind of gross. Let's not imagine that anymore.
I'm not at a financial or motivational point where I am ready to build a floating room-within-a-room (which is the proper way to dispell the noise level) so I'm going to have to find some alternative, cheapo, DIY techniques. Maybe I will stuff the walls with bunny rabbits. The really furry kind.
Do you think they will mind?
