The other night I was over Chez Ning et Beez watching some t.v.
For the last half hour of my visit, Ning and I watched some on-demand videos.
It was very cool, and placed me squarely in the present.
This is what I learned:
1) Indie bands are making some pretty cool videos. Of Montral, Mates of States and the Decemberists all have good videos that got me excited like 120 Minutes used to 10-15 years ago.
2) My post-punk British heroes aren't so great these days. Seeing current-day clips of Bauhaus doing "Telegram Sam" (their 1979 version is way better than the original T-Rex, nya nya, but their 2005 version is draggy and Daniel Ash was wearing leather and studs), Gang of Four doing "At Home He's a Tourist" (leaping about the stage like Peter Noone) and Paul Weller doing "That's Entertainment" (his voice sounds just like Eric Clapton now)--well it made me glad that XTC stopped performing in 1982.
We could have then watched a clip of Devo doing "Gates of Steel" from this year but I said "NO MORE!"
Then Henning said, "well, would you have turned down the reunion money?".
Smart ass.
