shift

I'm starting to notice more and more of those large Peace sign stickers on cars.
In fact when I was in the northern Berkshires yesterday, they seemed to outnumber the yellow ribbons and "fear this!"-type American flags 2 to 1.

And this aint no mindless peace sign like my classmates in the 80's with their New Kids On the Block clothes would put on their flourecent sneakers and book covers (and sometimes confuse with the Mercedes sign--god did that drive me crazy). It actually once again means something close to home now. And it can be on a stylish sticker or t-shirt. Peace is always cool ok.
In the 80's (at least in my clueless high school) it somehow seemed to be the antithesis of Anarchy--and that was just stupid. Are you a real man or a hippie? It leads me to believe that those metalheads in 9th grade who scoffed at my Grateful Dead t-shirts and called me a peace-loving hippie are now all "Where's YOUR flag, faggot? Love it or leave it! Rush is right!" The Anarchy sign meant nothing either in high school.
And now the yellow ribbons/flags start to seem mindless.
Symbols, man.
You gotta be ready to explain yourself as well.
