Mixed Emotions

I'm in the process of doing mixes for the new Fawns album. So, that means I am in a constant state of self-doubt and insecurity. Here's a song. I listen to it, and it sounds good. Then I listen to it five minutes later and it sounds terrible! The drums sound like cardboard, the guitars are out of tune, the bass is boomy, the way i mixed the voice is teeny. Then I listen again five minutes, later...huh, it sounds pretty good....yeah, I like this: the drums are powerful, the guitars are chimey, the bass is punchy, the voice is smooove...but wait, is the tamborine too loud?

Last night, my ears freaked out and everything sounded completely off beat and out-of-tune. I quickly shut down the system, went downstairs, and watched Comedy Central.

Why must I put myself through this rigamarole?
