Cool. Apparently Rick Reuben (who revived Johnny Cash's career) is attempting to do the same with Neil Diamond. I read that he made Neil listen to his early, more singer/songwriter stuff and made him play guitar on this album. Forcing Neil to leave the schlock of the last 25 years behind. We'll see in Novmber how it all worked out.

What Neil needs to do is listen again to everything he did up to and including "Holly Holy," and then sit down in a room alone with a guitar, a pen, and a pad of paper. I hope Rick Reuben will be asking him (and helping him) to trim away all the strings and rhinestones and get back to basic songcraft, unadorned.
