Best Song Ever?

What if you had to chose your all-time favorite song?!? That's crazy!! Nobody would ever have to do that. Yeah, but what if you did? It wouldn't ever happen. Yeah, but, let's just say it did. Well, that would be impossible. How can you compare songs? It doesn't make any sense. Yeah, but let's just say that it DOES make sense and that you have to do it. But, that's crazy! I know, but, just play along with me. What would you pick? If I absolutely had to? Yes. And it somehow made sense to qualify one song as better than another? Yes. And it doesn't really matter that much what I say? I guess not. So, then you want to know what my answer would be? Yes. In the crazy never-would-actually-happen situation that I am pretending is happening? Right. And you want me to tell you right now. Yep. Off the top of my head. You know it. Without giving it much thought. Sure. Ok. Ok. Fine. So what is it? The best song ever? Yes. America by Simon and Garfunkel. Good choice. Really? Sure.

i'm sure i've had precisely that conversation using nearly all those phrases, precisely. maybe it was with you once. anyway, my answer: i don't know, how about "harvest" by neil young, "ripple" by the grateful dead, or "have you forgotten" by red house painters? see, it's too hard. i pick #1 of those 3.

Well, it would be easy if you asked Brian Wilson, who would say "Be My Baby," a record he has played millions of times in his life. The record I've played million of times in my life since I was a youngster and just never tire of and never fail to be moved by is none other than "Don't Worry, Baby," which was directly inspired by "Be My Baby." Makes sense. Easy!

So my answer to that question is Don't Worry Baby by The Beach Boys, Superstition by Stevie Wonder, Lush Life by Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane, Never To Be Forgotten by The Bobby Fuller Four, Just My Imagination by The Temptaions, Septmber Gurls by Big Star and then I consider the canon of The Beatles and my head explodes.

Right now, song makes me cry, song drives me nuts as does this crazy question but i just heard it in a store and walked around the aisles all verklempt and i remember feeling a huge tunnel of everything in the world:-Waltz no. 2 by Elliott Smith. "you're no good you're no good you're no good. can't you tell that it's well understood?"
