I spent a little time last night trying to figure out a Pepsi/I-Tunes scam. But I can't seem to get anything. See, we are suppose to get about 60 cents each time someone downloads one of our songs from I-Tunes. That means, if I were to get a Pepsi with a free I-Tunes download (they claim that one in three wins), I can download my own song and get 60 cents from doing so.

I had thought that there might be some kind of weird loop-hole in their promotion since it seems like they might not have taken into consideration that a musician might use the free song to get his own song. But, I can't seem to make it work.

If I could get Pepsi bottles for less than 20 cents each, then the odds would work out that I would make a profit eventually, but to make that worth it, I would have to buy a whole lot of bottles of Pepsi. That's not even including all the work it would take to download each song.

Now, I have heard that you can tip a Pepsi up at about a 25 degree angle and actually see if that bottle is a winner or not before buying it, but I'm not about to stand around in a store and do that and besides, if the bottle was more than 60 cents (which it is) it still wouldn't pay-out.

But, doesn't it seem like there must be some kind of trick?

If I could get a whole mess of people to just email me their secret codes, that would work. But, why would they want to do that? Still, can you imagine the thousands and thousands of winning Pepsi caps that are being thrown out every day? Each one of those is worth 60 cents to me. If I could get a thousand that would be 600 bucks. And our songs would be pushed up on the I-Tunes charts (if such things exist).

Maybe I should get a part-time job at a bottle recycling plant.

I know it's stupid. But, I am reminded of Adam Sandler's character, Barry Eagan, in Punch Drunk Love. Remember how he got all those frequent flyer miles by buying pudding? That part of the story is based on a real guy who got 1.25 million frequent flyer miles by spending $3000 on Healthy Choice Pudding. I'm sure people thought he was crazy when he started talking about that.

Whatever, it doesn't matter. I can't get a scam worked out. Still, if you happen to have a free I-Tunes Pepsi Code out there, feel free to send it my way, or use it to download one of our songs (even if you don't use I-Tunes). Spread the word. Start a campaign. I expect to see 10,000 codes in my email box by the end of the week.

If you were normally a Pepsi drinker, then it would pay off. If you have to go out and buy something you wouldn't normally buy, there's no economical way to make it work to your benefit.

SO this comment has nothing to do with the above post or any other one but I needed a place to say something about this and I chose right here:

Just so SFTD is clear: When I wrote a story about local record labels recently, I only chose ones with several artists besides themselves (or bandmates solo prjects) and ones with national/international distribution. SO I couldn't put Rub Wrongways Records in there.

I would have if I could have but I couldn't.

There.
