Saturday I began a gig diary on last week's show and must've just closed the window and lost what I had written. It was getting chilly, you see.
Ouch.

Although Brian and Max certainly put effort into their stage clothes for any show we play and even Henning and Ken have been known to as well, anyone who knows me from even the Humbert days knows I usually arrive to play music in whatever I've been wearing that day. Used to be sweatshirts, T-shirts, jeans, moccadockloafers, mukluks, etc. but nowadays I'm suited & tied for school and that's what I'm wearing all day until bed. So the last few shows I've played I appeared all dressed up but I really was not, you see. I was, but not for the show itself. Besides, those who know me intimately should just be tankful I'm wearing anything at all. Ahem.

Chops a lil' rusty, body somewhat cramped in the corner, it took me a few beats to warm up. A collection of new friends/fellow student teachers arrived to the performance about four songs in, just about when my playing progressed from sloppy to inspired-sloppy. Mary, Liz, Cara, Erica and Sarah (Sarah left before the snapshot) certainly enjoyed the show (and effusively praised both Henning's wit and Brian's hair).

My favorite moment of the evening was playing "Back To School," glancing over at my schoolmates grooving to the pretty Henning song and catching the figure of Andrea scampering by, home for the holiday (from school)- it was a blending of two of my worlds with a lovely, live soundtrack gracefully supporting the mise-en-scene. Nice job.
