I read that article, Henning. Besides just having to rethink the music business from the perspectives of how consumers pay, how artists and record companies are paid, etc. it seems that there will also be an aesthetic revolution of sorts in how songs are collected and released. In some of the future scenarios, what point would there be in having an "album" as we know it now, i.e. a collection of songs written and recorded together in a collective statemnt of sorts, with a track order and sequence? Just release separate songs as you finish them and deem them releasable. Probably over half of my CD collection that's based on albums that existed previously as finite vinyl releases are fleshed out with bonus tracks anyway (not to mention the whole idea of Sides 1 and 2 were killed long ago)- this idea of an album makes even less sense when you can preview all the songs throughout any artist's catalogues and just pick what you like. I can just hear Hannah asking me- "What's a B-side, Daddy?" "What's a single?" "They used to play MUSIC on the radio?"
