I had a fascinating hour of TV watching last night, using both our stations.
11:30, PBS--Charlie Rose interviewing Norman Mailer. I was proud to recognize N.M the second I saw him, but then felt like a total UMass English major, because I couldn't immediately name one book he's written. (I almost said, "because I couldn't remember who he played third base for") (or, "since when did Gustav change his name?") Enough.
But it was a great, fascinating half hour. Good to hear intelligent, inspired discussion of various topics.
THEN:
midnight, ABC--The new Jimmy Kimmell Live show. I was psyched that finally I'd have a late night talk show to watch. But a) he gets crap guests and b) it makes Howard Stern look like Larry King. It was basically the host, plus Snoop Dog and Adam Corolla drinking shot after shot of something, and just trying to do and say shocking things. Yes, I'll probably watch it again.

In other news: I'm succeeding in teaching myself keyboard. The best way is to learn the chords to my own songs. I think I may make a second solo album at home, and call it like 'Second String' or 'Splinters' (as in what bench warmers get on their bums.) It'll empty out the reserve of songs from the last few years, plus introduce some new ones that are just kind of jokey, like "If You Find a Button on the Ground" and "You Will Never Know How Much I Really Love You". Ning, do we still have the Steamtrain 8 track or did Russ take it? I don't remember.

From the library today I took out the first season of Ab Fab and of TV Nation.
I have a crush on Norah Jones' voice. Maybe the woman herself. She revealed in Rolling Stone that she has a flatulence problem. That is a very good strategy, I must say. But Norah honey, I have a very poor sense of smell. Or maybe I just wanna meet her dad Ravi, and ask him what George Harrison was like. OK, really I have a crush on Dhani Harrison.
I've always really hated everything about Paula Abdul. Perhaps because she represents all I hated about the girls I went to high school with. I haven't seen American Idol.
