Oh, to answer your question, Henning, they were at one point different stores but Transworld (originally just Record Town) bought them all up. They just kept the names for recognition but all business practices by the previous company are tossed out and they go by Transworld rules of operation. Record Town, Strawberries, Coconuts, Camelot, FYE, The Wall, etc., it's all the same company. In fact, I think the only mall chain that exists that's not part of that company is Sam Goody and that might even have changed by now. If it's a music store inside a shopping mall, 90% chance it's a Transworld outlet. Remember how there used to be more than one record store in any given mall? Now there are no longer. And if there happens to be more than one store, take a good look at the signage or better yet what the price stickers look like- you'll see they're part of the same company. Either the mall is big and there are two for location purposes or both are making enough money to keep them both there. But it's all the same. FYE or Strawberries, Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson, Sprite or 7-Up... You think you have a choice somewhere in there...

I'll play wherever you'd like to get a show, Henny, don't get me wrong, even inside the belly of the beast but hey, this Rockumentary is my pulpit, my soapbox, my beloved Collegian column every other week. Rant, rant, rant, Nag Nag Nag, blah blah blah.

Wouldn't it be swell to fill a mall store with skinhead skater punk kids like my old band The Generics did back when we played an in-store for Discoveries? I felt bad when some of the kids ruined the owner's collectibles by slapping Generics stickers on top of rare album jackets and dumped orange drink on the floor and splashed it all over whilst moshing but I'd welcome such things inside one of those manicure-carpeted soul-sucking mall stores. A few of these occurrences will transpire and Transworld will forget all about this silly venture. My guess is they think they're doing their own American Idol with this business. Star Search for 2002.
