V66 - Bass Rocks Line

As you may know there is some new-found interest in my song V66. Makers of this new documentary about the music video channel of my past recently sent me an email to clarify some of the lyrics.

On of the phrases in question was "Bass Rocks". In the song, I sing, in a voice run through a Leslie speaker, "In the basement, out on Bass Rocks". A few folks have asked me about that in the past.

The truth is that Bass Rocks is a section of rocky beach in Gloucester, MA. My family used to sometimes go there so that we kids could climb around on the rocks and look for tide-pool critters. Later, when friends started getting licenses we would sometimes drive up there and hang out. So it is a spot that defines a time to me, but also there was a local band that had a video on V66 called "Bass Rocks". Or at least I was pretty sure that there was. My memory of it is so vague and dreamlike that I wasn't positive it was even real.

But lo and behold, once again YouTube saves the day with films of my dreams.

Awesomeness. I love the sound of the cowbellbuoys all along our New England coast.
