while Ning's Away, the Turtles will play

3 things about this clip: 1) the Turtles probably would have been a funnier TV band than the Monkees2) These are the daddies, visually and sonically, of Elephant 6 bands and other sunshiny indie pop groups.3) this should brighten your day

Bri,
Impressed by most of the Turtles 20 Greatest Hits CD, I recently picked up a Vol. 2 (unfortunately) titled "Turtle Wax." You'd be surprised at the quality of some of these album tracks and failed singles. About six of the tracks are utterly awful but there are some gems among the remaining fifteen or so, including their stab at Goffin/King's "So Goes Love," which is a sappy Davy ballad in The Monkees canon but here sports a sort of world-weary resignation with some atmospheric fuzz guitar. "Is It Any Wonder?" might be one of my favorite Turtlestunes ever, as it's one of those soaring dynamic 60s pop odes to love like "You Baby" or "Can I Get To Know You Better?" Next time we see each other, I'll bring it with to lend to you. L. Russ would be down with it as well.

Tony, you know the 2 disc Rhino set (which I got from Ken, actually)?
A couple tracks I didn't know initially that I like are "Somewhere Friday Night" and "The Last Thing I Remember".
The former reminds me of something I'd write (or wish I wrote) and the latter is just outright triptastic.

Ah, so you probably know of most of the tracks then. That 2-disc set ("Solid Zinc" or something to that effect is the title I believe) is out of print so although I was interested in that, it's not widely available and quite expensive so I just went with getting the two separate best-ofs volumes 1&2.
