A really short story

For a Christmas gift, one of my students gave me a copy of this book:

The World's Shortest Stories of Love & Death

Each story included within contains a maximum of 55 words. The author must include all of the elements that mark a story: character(s), setting, conflict and resolution. Usually this means the stories tend to establish quick set-ups and then unveil twists. So it's entertaining reading, especially for so many of my students who have been diagnosed with attention deficits.

I dug out a creative writing piece I wrote back in 8th grade and edited it so that it would fit the aforementioned criteria. Enjoy:

THE MANSION

“Imagine all the stuff they have in there,” mused Irene as the couple gazed through the wrought iron bars surrounding the estate. “I’m scared… Scared we’ll never get any of it for ourselves, Bobby.”
“Stay positive. We will. We just got to try, baby.”
Irene sighed, loaded her gun, then Bobby hoisted her over.
