Heet Stof on Sitting Next To Brian

Here's a nice little write up about Sitting Next To Brian from Heet Stof, a music blog from the Netherlands.

"Writing songs looks like a beautiful activity. I've tried writing lyrics for songs when I was young, but I didn't know how I could add music to it. For some people writing songs is as normal as riding a bike or swimming. You'll have to learn it once and after that you'll never forget it. Some songwriters write one song after another like it's nothing and other songwriters labor on it for days until they are satisfied. I don't know but I think that Brian Marchese belongs to the first category.

He is from Northampton, Massachusetts and in that town he is mainly known as drummer. Brian has been writing songs since he was sixteen, but he became a drummer because there were plenty of singer/songwriters and there was a shortage of drummers. He has played with dozens of bands since 1995 and he just released his first solo-album in 2004.

This CD "A Cartoon, A Joke" was released under the 'band name' Sitting Next to Brian with Rub Wrongways Records, also from Northampton. Almost two months ago they also released "Polite" the second album from Sitting Next to Brian.

Of course Brian sings and plays the drums on his songs, but he also often plays the guitar and saxophone. But he's not a multi-instrumentalist who does all himself, because on both albums he gets a lot of help from other musicians. However Sitting Next to Brian produces very nice pop songs..."
