Sunday, I WAS into being in a dark room in the middle of the day. I brought a slice of Luna in with me and, for fear of being rude, I sat at the coffee table in the corner and ate in peace....for about 5 seconds.
First Jason came over to tell me how things were going, then Reno the dog jumped up out of nowhere and sat with me. I was soon joined by Scott A. and Brian A.
Jason snapped a funny photo of Reno, Brian and me.
Between sets they were playing some good music and I suddenly felt like I was in a cool Amsterdam coffeehouse--without the key ingredient.
Anyway, I was watching Kurt from Feathers play some beautiful acoustic guitar and dreamy vocals. I was told that Thane's set (why i was there) was going to be delayed.
A free form noise jam started up, which drove me and a few others outside for some sunlight. It was groovy, but really, my ears were still ringing form 2 days of festivities.
Thane eventually went on, with Matty Cullen on lead guitar, and (for 3 songs), Bruce Tull on pedal steel. Thane did a mix of old and new, with 3 of the 12 steps. It was transcendent as always. Though hearing another lead guitar on Figments songs was a bit like walking in on your lady with another guy. Yowzaa. Mind if I watch?
During the set, Matt Hebert asked if I wanted to play 2 songs during his 3 song set.
So I stayed to play "Poisoner" and "Blood"--the former, sans snare on snare, because I couldn't get the thing to work (this happened during my surprise Ning drum solo spot too. I mean, I planned it...).
Matt Cullen was on bass, and it was a blast.
5 minutes later I was at the Dirty Truth with a beer and fries talking about what a fun weekend I'd just had.
"Oh my god", I exclaimed, sticking 17 fries between my cheek and gum, "I just had the FUNNEST WEEKEND! Let me tell you all about it!!".
Then I choked and passed out. Too many fries.
The End.
