This Saturday (October 20, 2007) at The Academy of Music 1t 8:00 PM
You can get tickets at the Academy Box Office on the night of the show, or you can get them in advance at tix.com. It is $18 dollars or $10 for students.
But what is The Rosenbach Company you ask. Well, here is how Variety described it:
"Whatever this show is -- a sung-through biodrama? a chamber rock opera? a meeting of the museum establishment with the music underground? -- it is thrilling, charming and altogether a knockout. In this concert version with three singers and a band ranging from electric guitar to cello and flute, the stage is filled by projections of colored drawings. Its unlikely subject is obsessive rare-book collecting and the creation of what is now the Rosenbach Museum & Library, an elegant, arcane institution in Philadelphia."-

Brian and I are both heavily involved in this production we took part in the arranging of the music and we both perform in the band. Brian plays drums, percussion, glockenspiel, and saxophone, and I play all the keyboards and bass guitar. We also both sing for various characters throughout the performance. Also performing is Dave Trenholm on electric and acoustic guitars, flute, clarinet, saxophone, and vocals. And Stephen Katz is on Cello. The main singers are Mark Mulcahy, Ryan Mercy, Katie Geissinger.
The songs were written by Mark Mulcahy with lyrics by renowned comic artist, Ben Katchor.
We've put on The Rosenbach Company in Philadelphia, numerous theatres in New York (including the NYC Public Library) and in Amherst. This is the first performance in Northampton. Next spring we take it to San Francisco.
I hope you can make it to this bizarre, funny, moving, and inspiring show. I'm proud to be a part of it and I'm sure you will dig it.
