The Fame Game

Watched the Golden Globes last night for some reason. At one point, they mentioned the Scorcese movie The Departed and Lesa said, "Isn't that the one that Bill Moynihan wrote?" Sure enough a few minutes later there was Scorcese on the stage thanking Bill. It was a strange moment to see this guy sitting there who I had seen so many times sitting at the end of the bar during open mic at Harry's (now The Elevens) with his head down, either writing or reading.

Those people on the TV who do things and make movies and music and all of that. Those are people. People do things.

On a somewhat related note, I've been thinking lately that Northampton is gradually becoming a bit more of an extension of NYC. It's not just that Sparky's (the restaurant) has opened on Main Street, I'm not sure what it is, but I have this gut feeling that more and more NYC folks are starting to move here. Pretty soon you'll see John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Woody Allen, Lou Reed, and Wallace Shawn getting lunch at the Woodstar. It's gonna be strange. "Pick up the pace, Conan, I'm driving here!"
