heh?

Sometimes these things just can't help but be shared. Plus, the student responsible for this misunderstanding would never be embarrassed by my sharing it with anyone else; on the contrary, she probably would encourage me to tell others, as she no doubt has done herself by now.

During class today, when I was reading aloud, the novel mentions that a character's uncle has polio, at which point the aforementioned student blurted out, "I've had that. It's gross!" I almost fell off the desk when I heard that (rather than standing at a board or sitting at a desk, I usually sit on top of a vacant student desk). Turns out she was thinking of Polly-O string cheese! So then I told her if she ever tried it again, she should have some Orangina to wash it down with. The idea that the word "angina" is ensconced in that brand name always cracked me up. But although she loves that particular beverage, she'd never heard of the word angina before. Now she has.

In an unrelated story, this is the student who lives in the Ritz in Boston and is neighbors with Red Sox player Manny Ramirez. He's given her an autographed baseball (she's never brought it to school, she's only shown me pictures) as well as tickets for her and her mother to upcoming games. He even lets her call him Mr. Money Ramirez.
