Not only are the birds and bees and flowers and trees producing after a tough winter--but so are the artists at Rub Wrongways records. You can be there when several of these babies appear in public for the first time--Friday May 27 at the Elevens.
Henning and Lesa each have no less than 4 new amazing pop songs EACH.
The presence of Ken has helped, in that you don't underachieve in the presence of The Fury. He will make sure your baby is delivered, happy and healthy, even if you think it's premature.
It's been great learning new songs and then having them run through your head at work, when your falling asleep, when you're driving, when you're trying to read a damn book, when you're trying to be so quiet.
(speaking of Dylan's "Visions of Johanna", did he write 2 of the first and best psychedelic lines ever in that song? "The ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face" and "Jewels and binoculars hang from the head of a mule". The first is just beautiful, the second just cartoonish)
Anyway, in other parts, I'm learning new Figments songs for our big show opening for Mark Mulcahy at the Eagles Club on June 11. it will double as Thane's birthday.
Here's a verse I wrote at work celebrating everyone's creative fertility--or two of its perennial stars in my life:
They're both tall and they both have funny names
They answer to the call of Henning and Thane
And when I start to think that I've been here too long
I get to make up beats to their brand new songs
And again I feel sane
Lastly, Sitting Next to Brian Vol 2 has just cracked open its swirly silver, green and black shell and is wobbling about the barnyard on unsteady, yet very sexy legs. It thinks its mom is a pear. The Wrongways family is trying desperately to keep the papparazzi away.
Using the word "sexy" when speaking of newborn farm animals is very wrong.
But we're speaking of songs, we are.
Four songs were recorded--the drums (me) and bass and some keyboard (Ken).Nothing else yet.
Once again, it's all over the map--Devo one minute, the Wedding Present the next, Television yet another. Always SNTB. Always exciting and not looking you in the eye.
