Max, I get your point but I doubt it has anything to do with Boston Pop Underground or the International Pop Overthrow. My bet would be that the female or multi-gendered bands probably haven't contacted them in order to play and/or are not as visible in general in the Boston music world. I think it is a symptom of the music scene in general. Certainly the vast majority of bands out there in the pop world are male, otherwise there wouldn't even be a classification of girl bands or multi-gendered, it's assumed that the norm is male.
I don't know anything about the Boston Pop scene in general. How can we find out how many women are involved? How about in the national pop/rock/indie world? What's the percentage there? I wouldn't know how to find out.
I guess the question is, should the folks in charge of these awesome pop events purposely seek out bands with women in them?
I don't know, but I certainly agree with you that the women should stand up and be heard. There must be some great popster women out there in Boston. Who are you?
