Indeed I did make an order for the track listing but it's currently in my front car seat, three floors below and cold. It was just a practice attempt so I wasn't settled on much but I'll pick some gripes with ken's suggestions (noticed how I lower-cased "ken" as he himself would?).
I really liked "Campground Daughter" second on my own list (which also followed "Photobooth" as the opener) and I guess I spaced out some of the ballads more, though the soft rock rather outnumbers the Rawk-rock so it's hard to do without disrupting the flow, like ken mentioned. I'm not fond of "Pick A Gripe" up so far- it's a very long track comparatively (nearly 5 minutes, an eternity in the pop world we inhabit) and I guess I never figured it as one of our "hits." And "Candy Cane," oh, it's just my favorite song and I'm very happy with the finished version- I know no one will agree with me but I'd love it up front- I'd even start the damn record with it if it were up to me alone. I also like albums that break with tradition and start with slow tunes, like "Music From Big Pink," the Beach Boys' "Friends," every Simon & Garfunkel album. But I realize that's not going to happen. Still, I have to say I think "Pick A Gripe" would test people's patience right up front like that.
So them's my quibbles. In other news, I unfortunately have decided to skip the Portland show. Really didn't want to but it occurred to me last night that I will very soon (in February) have to be begging my new boss to rearrange my schedule or take time off to arrange for all my interviews with advisors and professors at UMass for the application process to the Master's program. I take consolation in the fact that we have the Provincetown show the following weekend. A shame to not be able to visit my old friend and bandmate Mark, who now lives in Portland and I was looking forward to the edgy performance art aspect of the Space affair and even had some ideas. Ah, well. Say hey to Jose...
