I was thinking about what a friend said to me recently. He'd found the first Frank Black+Catholics album on vinyl. The album was recorded live to 2-track. And he found it on vinyl. It was, he said, "an audiophile's dream". He later mentioned how much he hated MP3s.
So, I bring up these analogies to the house:
Teabags, instant coffee, MP3.
Particle board, $5.99 wine, MP3
Sara Lee frozen apple pie, Coffee-Mate, MP3
i.e., you get the effect of something in its genuine form. Does it really matter that it's packaged for convenience and it's not real?
