Besides getting me into Freedy and Steely Dan, I can credit Stop and Shop for getting me to appreciate kd lang.
I LOVE her voice. Tony, do you know the songs Miss Chatelaine, If I Were You or Summer Fling? All golden in my book.
Today in the van I listened to Dylan+The Band's Basement Tapes. Has anyone read that (is it Greil Marcus or Robert Christgau) book all about the makings of it?
In any case, I feel it's fascinating, because it marks a perfect in-between stage of mid 60's Dylan (the many absurd characters, the hillarious lyrics, the surrealism) and the John Wesley Harding and beyond Dylan (earnest lyrics, timeless themes). There's a little of both here.
