That's right, I was going to ask for a Pelicans review. Frank burned me a copy (Ari OK'd it) of the new CD and after 3 listens, everything is already familiar and memorable. It's great. I love the production, Ari's lower-register voice, and the new drummer is fab. I played it for Ken while in NoAdams (Ken's on a few songs, doing keyboards and harmony) and he loved it too. I called Ari the day of the show, to wish him well.
At WMRLS, where I work, we've discharged all the non-fiction, and librarians are coming by and scooping up bucketloads of books. Employees get to pick over the picked-over, and still I scored some groovy things:
John Cale's autobiography (awesome layout); a photo bio of Frank Sinatra; Everything Is Under Control--a book about conspiracy theories; Starstruck, a book of cheap candid celebrity snapshots a guy took from 60's-80's; an astrology book; a cat psychology book; and one called Unknown Legends of Rock and Roll, which comes with a CD.
Almost took books on Elvis and Andy Kaufmann. But we don't wanna be greedy.
Red leather pants? No. Smells better. No animals harmed.
Related story: I fell asleep with 15 minutes left to go in "About a Boy" last night. I'll watch the rest tonight. I loved the book. The movie? Well, I laughed a few times and the characters are likeable and Badly Drawn Boy did the soundtrack. It should all add up to a great film. But it somehow just makes for pleasant entertainment, Lots of DVD extras--30 minute interview w/ Badly Drawn Boy, who looks a lot like Matt Hebert. Thick Mancunean accent, him.
