So The Pelicans are the first of my friends' bands to release a CD this year. But 2003 should also see releases by Brian, The Fawns, Spanish For Hitchhiking, The Tealights, School For The Dead, The Parents and possibly Fountains Of Wayne?
Not to be greedy but maybe there should be two more. Perhaps to counteract all the work he's been putting into SFTD and The Fawns' recordings plus his role as producer on The Parents and Brian, I'd like Henning to bash through a solo album. Not like the first SFTD CD, but something that's just him and acoustic guitar. After all the open mics (and Friday night proved it), Henning has matured into a wonderful solo singer/songwriter. In addition to solo acoustic versions of hits throughout his previously (or soon-to-be) recorded canon like Screen Door, Martha, Overs, etc., there are songs of his he hasn't recorded like Remind Yourself, Nerdgirl, This Nightly Progression, TV Up!, Might Be Something Better or the one about "I don't mind so much this time." Throw in a well-chosen cover and you've easily got an incredible album. Let's do it. Pick a day and I'll come over and press the buttons on the computer, you set yourself up with an acoustic and vocal mic in the other room and just bop 'em out.
Also, I told myself I'd release a solo effort once a year before May rolls around so that I'd have something to sell to friends and fans to earn money for my participation in the annual cancer relay walk that Motherwear takes part in. I have a few home-recorded projects I could use but if it doesn't overwhelm you too much, I'd love to bang out a few more songs at RubWrongways with Brian contributing some drums. Very loose, fun affair. Nothing for radio or to promote a band or play shows but just an album of Westcott originals. Teach Brian a song, run through it a few times, get a good take, on to the next song. Throw down some bass and guitars and come in another day for vocals, then mix. 12 tracks total, a few I've already recorded, others would just be guitar and vocal. Let's crash the ol' hard drive again, whatcha say?
