Ning et al.
I'm here to turn you on to a new site called carniedigital.com. The site is up, but not officially "launched" yet (March, I believe). In any case, you put your music up on it, and receive 70% of the proceeds of your downloads, which people will pay to get (how much? I dunno). 5% of the proceeds will go to childrens music programs and local music initiatives.
I'm telling you about this because I was introduced to the CEO the other night at the Ware River show. Nice guy. His name is Loren and he's also a drummer (turned down an offer to join Cake and spent two years in Japan doing sessions, unless I have my stories mixed up). He told me that according to Steven Desaulniers (who is also with this company) I should be getting actual session work. We may get together and discuss how one goes about doing this (I'll have to stop making friends with musicians, so I can feel like I can accept money from them).
Today I was in a barely heated van again for 8 hours. Doing sessions would probably be more fun.
But I trailed Rick from Group DeVille from Dalton to Windsor (he was driving home from his job). He stopped and we briefly chatted in front of the Windsor town hall/library/deli/oil change/women's apparel place. Then I did my job and he continued.
Ning, put out that fire!! Put your throat on Nice.
I was listening to Richard Belzer on the Howard Stern show today. Trying to figure out why he's so funny. Because he's really funny, but what he's saying isn't necessarily funny. Like a good singer who can make dumb lyrics sound good.
Tony: with my Newb.Comics gift certificate I almost got Deluxe Brainwashed and the reissued All Things Must Pass. But I got Monterey instead.
I heard "Devil and Deep Blue Sea" on the radio last night, and it's odd how his voice does sound as youthful as on say "For You Blue".
Tony: make me a tape of your new songs. Then I can dig it in the library van and learn it. That van' sbeen great for that. I learned a) Kayrol Island b) Scott Hall's stuff and now c) Thane's new 12 Step rock opera, "Rehab, Massachusetts" which will feature a band half figments, half stuntmen, plus Miranda Brown.
I bought a new electric razor, and a Casio keyboard. No more gift certificates left.
I think if we had an organ, not a piano in the house growing up, I would have really wanted to learn to play. It's like organ is chocolate, piano is carrot. Both good, but organ is irresistable. That's me.
So I'm trying to learn keyboard basics. I taught myself upsidedown guitar and incorrect drums, let's see what kind of totally wrong technique I can invent to teach myself keyboard. Christ, though, it's hard.
