About 2 years ago, on either the River or on a college station, I kept hearing a great song by The Mother Hips. I din't remember what it was, or how it went, but I looked them up and ended up on their mailing list (perhaps I was looking into Steamtrain gig swaps). In any case, they're from northern Cali and they're breaking up. BUT they do a neat thing:
they have (or had) a "street team" and with each gig, the web mater would send attatchments of posters advertsing an upcoming gig (or a blank poster, to be filled in by the poster-er) which you can print out, make copies of, the your loyal fans (or "street team") could poster to their hearts' delight!
The Steamtrain once considered something like this, but surprise, it never got off the ground.
