Tony, I agree with you about the Nields' version of "Black Boys on Mopeds". It's unfortunate that a band with so many things right (well-written pop songs, a great rhythm section, excellent stage presence) got bogged down with Katryna and Nerissa's vocals. I was a fan of "Gotta Get Over Gretta", which was their first real foray into music that was too edgy for folk, too tame for alternapop, and too clever for mainstream pop. Their live shows were excellent, and the rhythm section of Daves were monstrous (who knew that a few years later they would be in *my* band... yee!). The Nields sistas are friends (I also own the most expensive piece of Nields' memorabilia in Katryna's car) and I think they are very talented, but their singing is not always my cup of tea. There are some recordings in which the vocals aren't as overbearing, though. Check out "Jeremy Newborn Street" and "Mr. Right Now" from the last band studio recording *Home*, the latter featuring Philip on backing vox.

Funny the difference between the Nields and someone like Emmylou Harris, whose vocal delivery is intense and sometimes overbearing, but who I never get tired of listening to. Same goes for Excene Cervenka.
