It's 8:30 a.m. and so far I have fed the cat, taken out the garbage, swept, and done an hour and a half's worth of dishes. Can we be domestic and still rawk? I hope so.
I have many wishes for 2003, some realistic, many idealistic, a couple goofy, a bunch unlikely.
For this band, as well as the Fawns and Spanish For Hitchhiking, I wish for more fans, shows in interesting places, finishing our records and unabashed fun. I predict this will be a banner year for Northampton's music scene. Everything is in place: we've got bands who will help elevate the scene nationally (Stephen Kellogg, Drunk Stuntmen, Tea Lights, Stone Coyotes, Ware River Club, Mobius Band, Kahoots, et al), new clubs which will help foster new acts and bring in bands who would otherwise ignore the area, and a vibe that seems (to me) to be more inclusionary than in years past. I've noticed over the past year musicians playing together who, for whatever reason, would be less inclined to in the past. Bands seem to be more open to playing on bills with others who may not sound just like them (a plus in my book). And it seems as though there are more and more NYC/Boston-area artists who are trying to build a following here, and succeeding. As long as we don't have someone like Billboard proclaiming Northampton to be the next big thing (again) we could be the next big thing.
I wish for peace and calm and for all the big powers that be to sit down and smoke some pot together. Melt the guns, yo.
I wish for a small house with a stable and a pony.
I wish my hair would grow faster.
I wish joy for everyone.
