Well, everyone, it's 1:02 AM and my birthday is over so you can all stop being so nice to me. Here is what I did this evening. I revisited my life ten years ago in a way.
First, I got out of work (that didn't happen ten years ago as I wasn't working so much.)
Second, When I got home and I quickly tossed a bunch of stuff (long pants, long sleeve, Vonnegut book, wallet, phone (not ten years ago either), towel (you just never know, Arthur) and what have you. I found my car keys, grabbed a cassette (remember those?) with XTC Drums and Wires and Murmur on it and jumped in my car with no where in particular to go.
I drove for about 45 minutes nostalgically devouring Drums and Wires and ended up at Puffer's Pond in Amherst where I walked and walked and walked.
Next stop was Bart's in Amherst for some dinner and a free birthday ice-cream. After dinner I checked my messages at home and found:
1.) A Call from Amy Kroin at the Advocate looking for a picture of SFTD for their upcoming College Survival Guide.
2.) A Call from Dennis and Loren singing Happy Birthday.
3.) A call from Lesa and her sister, Judy, singing Happy Birthday.
4.) A call from Jaqui saying Happy Birthday.
5.) A call from MAx sayign HAppy Birthday.
Next stop, Pluto Nash, a not so memorable Eddie Murphy movie at Cinemark. There were four other people in the theatre, just before I went in I ejected the tape and heard my "Local Hero" theme on the River.
This movie was followed by me driving for another half hour or so enjoying Murmur.
When I got home I found a Gift Card for Staples from the boys in SFTD. Sixty Freekin' Bucks!! What's up with tthat?!? Thank you, faculty.
I also found a package from my parents, including a shirt, a really fancy chocolate, and a check for $98.99. Strange amount huh? I spent a good deal of time trying to figure out what that number might represent until I just chalked it up to them trying to confuse me and being silly. The check is supposed to be for shoes and pants - but we all know I'm gonna blow it on the horse races.
I also found at home a whole mess of friendly birthday emails form the likes of Rick, Marty, Dan, and Lauri. People are far too nice to me. Thank you all, it was a great day, even at work since Lori hung up the nice sign outside my window (the tape on the sign held up all day until exactly 4:25 when I was just shutting down my computer and gettign ready to leave!), Nanci gave me a cool SFTD School Bus Book Mark and a huge box of chocolate bars, and this morning when I went to get my usual Bagel and Honest Tea, they handed me a bag with my picture on it and said it was all paid for thanks to my Boss, Anne. Tomorrow's is paid for too.
Thanks again everyone. Now what to buy at Staples.....
