Max:

Happy 4th everyone! Or at least, happy day off! I need to do laundry but am guessing everything is closed. Not a good thing. I've been wearing the same shorts for a week.

Dave Hower and I went to Men In Black II with our lady friends last night. I loved it - what a great summer flick. I also highly recommend the new Japanese restaurant in town, Osaka. The sweet potato roll is yummy, and their toro is delicious.

Tony, your dilemma about hiring Ken or Brian for Humbert for drumming duties reminded me of a Maggies' show back in '94ish. I think it was a 4th of July party in Amherst, a day-long party with bands playing in back of the house. My memory is fuzzy but I'm pretty sure Sourpus and Tizzy played, or maybe it was Flower Thief. Pirate Jenny? I can't remember. Anyway, Stu never showed up - very unlike Stu - and Ken graciously offered to fill in. I didn't know Ken could play drums, but figured what the heck. Philip and I still lived in New Hampsha at the time and, while it was only an hour drive, it would have been a drag not to play. Ken was amazing; he knew the songs so well that at times I forgot this was someone we had never played with before. HIs fills were dead-on and I think we wowed the 8 or so people who were watching us.

Ken - Mal Thursday messed up our contribution to Hotel Massachusetts as well, using the wrong mix of the song we sent. When I listen to the old Maggies' tapes with the first lineup everything sounds so cute and messy, and I can't really tell what the big deal was with the different mixes. But at the time I remember getting pissed at Mal and holding it against him for years. Where is he, anyway? I heard at one point he was going to work for the Expos or something. Anyway, I really enjoyed reading your musical history.
