Henning: Summertime in Northampton, MA. I'm home from work because my intense sunburn is preventing me from even putting shoes on. A trip to Cape Cod to see Jonathan Richman at The Beachcomber in Wellfleet is to blame. Great performer that Jonathan - horrible audience at The Beachcomber. The front group of 50 or so people, smooshed in trying to get as close to the stage as possible, are hanging on his every word while the idiot jocks in the back by the bar are talking talking talking talking as loud as possible. Doesn't make sense to me. Why pay 15 bucks to go to a show that you ignore and ruin for everyone else. If an incredible performer like Jonathan Richman can't get a crowd to shut up what chance do we possibly have?
Does anybody even want to see a show anymore?
Anyway, we had a nice little surprise concert this Saturday during The Aloha Steamtrain show at The Amherst Brewing Company. Ken, Brian, and I played a set. It was fun, I used Russ' electric guitar. People seemed to dig the show.
I am still in the process of trying to get my computer back up and running after losing my hard drive. That's what I am doing today with this time off from work. But, it is slow going. I spent quite a while uploading sound samples to cdstreet.com where I have my little record label Rub Wrongways Records. It should have been easy but stupid Real Player won't convert discs to MP3 or RM unless you pay a membership fee, so I had to download MusicMatch, which I have had problems with in the past. I uploaded two songs and then found out that there is really only room for one more. I wanted to do one for each album that we have available so, I don't know what I am going to do about that.
Yes, www.rubwrongways.com. It's a label of sorts. We may have a new artist up there soon, still negotiating.
What else am I doing in the way of School for the Dead? I still need to get Photoshop loaded into my computer before I can do any pictures and I need to speak to a guy named Dan before I can fix the websites. Maybe Zeke can help. I'm a musician, dammit, not an IT Tech.
I laid down a click track for rerecording Peggy-O (which had been lost with my hard drive) today, I might still add the guitar but it is very hot and my skin is burned and I might not have it in me. Originally, we were going to try to get the track on a traditional music tribute album through our buddy Niall at Dren Records, but the computer glitch took care of that. I still want to record it though, it was pretty good.
I'm reading this Simon and Garfunkel biography called "Old Friends" and it is pretty inspiring.
Brian is excited about recording recording recording this summer and I am too. I just hope I can get all this nonsense to work.
